Blue Sky BioEnergy Ltd. was incorporated in Saskatchewan in January 2006 after more that a year of committee research and planning. Blue Sky’s project arose from the proponent’s interest and investigations into the Agricultural Producers of Saskatchewan’s Integrated Ethanol model. The group felt that the combination of environmental and financial risks associated with the production of meat could limit their Company’s ability to be profitable. The Directors determined that they wished to be strictly an energy company. They have focused on developing a more stable energy model where profitability appears more probably. It is their feeling that the average consumer is more willing to pay for energy than for food.

The focus therefore changed to incorporate a total energy model incorporating producer involvement and farm sustainability. Co-products would also be utilized in the generation of energy. Their unique business model produces ethanol through distillation and the wet distillers grain will be used to feed an anaerobic bio-digester to produce methane and fertilizer. The methane will provide heat and power for the production process of ethanol and the fertilizer will be utilized by the shareholder / producers in their grain production.

Public meetings have been held at different locations throughout the region to gage local interest. The interest by producers in this project even in these tight economical times appears relatively strong. The results have been a list of signed “Expressions of Interest” with over 200 producer’s names. This is more support than we will need to build the proposed 40 million-litre facility.

Those attending the meetings say that the Board of Blue Sky is heading in the right direction to make a successful plant flourish in East Central Sask. 

Their future intention is to engage an engineering firm to develop blueprints to build an expandable facility beginning with 40 million litres of capacity. They will also be converting the “Expressions of Interest” into shareholder equity investment in Blue Sky Bio-Energy Ltd. 

Our REDA has also applied through the REF for a grant for an analysis of the bio-digester process that the ethanol board wants to tie into this project.

Melville is a rail transportation divisional point on the CN main line. Over 250 full time staff work out of this divisional point. CN has been a major presence in Melville ever since this location was chosen for a divisional point. In fact, Melville is named after the president of CN’s predecessor Grant Trunk Pacific Railway, Charles Melville Hays.

Exquisite Enterprises is Saskatchewan's only manufacturer of fine hardwood caskets located west of Melville on Highway #15. As wholesale suppliers to funeral homes they distribute their caskets over a wide geographical area. Besides their primary business of manufacturing caskets, they also build cabinets and furniture.

  The Viterra-Waldron located off Hwy 9 is a high through-put grain elevator. They buy all types of grain and sell some fertilizer, seed and chemical. As a grain buyer they also provide such services as grain sampling, moisture testing and protein testing. The Waldron location also has an agrologist on staff for field walks and weed scouting. 

Hauser’s Machinery Ltd. is a family owned and operated business spanning three generations. Through the years, small expansions were made to meet the growing demand for space and in 1997, Hauser’s doubled their production plant to 8,600 sq. ft. to accommodate a new heavy duty highway truck and trailer service centre and expanded manufacturing facilities.

In recent years, Hauser’s has expanded their agricultural division by becoming a WESTEEL bin dealer to complement their existing line of retro-fit hopper cones and steel flat bottom bin floors. This business relationship enables Hauser’s to handle the grain storage needs of farmers today.

Located in Lemberg, Viterra offers a wide range of crop input products and services. They sell granular and liquid fertilizers, Proven Seed, plus a full range of pesticides: herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.

Liquid fertilizer users have access to rental of caddys, field storage units, dribble bar and coulter. Delivery units supply product to the caddys or field storages, from the site.

Additional services offered from the site: experienced and fully qualified 3rd party custom spray applicator, crop scouting, agronomic advice, and hail insurance.

With respect to grain, trained staff can take moisture tests, contract and market all types of grain to the three surrounding Viterra terminals, print your cash tickets, complete cash advance applications, and complete your permit book application.
