Melville is ideally located as a hub amongst number fifteen (15), forty-seven (47) and number ten (10) highways. The later is a key in any project that requires heavy truck traffic. Number ten, is an all year heavy weight highway joining this part of Saskatchewan to either number’s one (1) or sixteen (16) highways. This location would give unimpeded weight restrictions for heavy truck traffic year round.
Melville also sits on the CN mainline and is also a crew turnaround point midway between Winnipeg to the East and Saskatoon to the West. Melville is also located only minutes away from the CP secondary mainline.
Air traffic is always an issue in today’s fast pace business world. Melville has a local airstrip and is located twenty-five minutes away from a Regional airport in Yorkton or a international one only one and a half hour away in Regina.
Power, telephone and gas are very much a part of Melville’s infrastructure. In fact large users of gas or three-phase power are excited to learn that Melville is on the main distribution lines to these utilities. Hook-up costs are minimal when a user is able to utilize the main grids, which flow right through our community.
Water is a rare resource in today’s world. Many businesses are burdened with the cost, quality and the distance from a good source of water. Melville is proud to boast a huge supply of excellent quality water. We are certain this resource will be a leading factor in locating or relocating business to this area over time.
Tax Incentives are a natural discussion point in any new construction project, be it large or small. It is important that your business understands that Melville has put in place a policy that could offer your company up to a
five year tax holiday. While there are different aspects to this policy, we would encourage you to fully explore this incentive. We are also pleased to point out that this policy also extends to
residential housing. Therefore, individuals coming into this community to work for your company would be very surprised to find out that the “olive branch” which is normally extended to a major business was also put together with the worker in mind.
Opportunities and Incentives for the workers! It is not always normal to find many lines in a business plan directed towards the workers in that industry. However in today’s environment that appears to push most skilled workers into Alberta to deal with the oil and gas boom, the worker is front and center of most business plans. We have already explained what Melville has to offer in the form of incentives to attract families to your business, but it is worth mentioning what else is in the offering. Workers that are attracted along with their families tend to be more stable and committed staff.
We are very proud to have safe and affordable living
conditions, both crucial factors when raising a family in today’s environment. It is also important to recognize the importance of the Kindergarten to grade twelve
education available in Melville in both a public and Catholic setting. Melville also boasts the head office of Parkland Regional College, which offers an abundance of
adult, post-secondary and technical education opportunities for area residents. Your business should not overlook the importance of Parkland Regional College in possibly delivering some of the necessary training needed for working in your industry.
It should also be noted that Melville boasts one of the most
modern hospitals within our region. Together with they’re on sight ambulance service this should provide a degree of calmness that health care and emergency aid is near when needed. This also provides a huge opportunity for employment for other family members when St. Peter’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Lutheran Home are looked at in aggregate.
Families are also interested in moving to communities that offer a wide range of
arts, sports and culture activities of which Melville has in abundance.
