IS MELVILLE, A HOCKEYVILLE COMMUNITY?
Do you think Melville should be declared the Kraft Hockeyville community for 2006? Do you think Melville or the Melville Millionaire name is synonymous with hockey? Do you think this community should host an NHL hockey game? Will here is a chance for our community to pull together and make all of this happen.
The CBC along with Kraft, Home Depot, NHLPA and the NHL are giving communities such as ours a chance to make this all happen. All we have to do as a community is call 1-866-755-8882 or go to
www.cbc.ca/hockeyville
; and start to make it happen. Area residents can enter our community as many times as we wish. All entries must be received by Sunday March 19, 2006. So it is very important that everyone interested in this project make it happen now.
So what is the grand prize? The Kraft Hockeyville 2006 trophy, an NHL exhibition game (worth about $400,000.00) to this community, $25,000.00 in upgrades to the community’s arena and $10,000.00 worth of hockey equipment to this community’s minor hockey program. Something for all aspects of the local community that wins the grand prize. There are also smaller prizes for the other four finalists.
So why would Melville qualify? Melville has a lot of reasons why it should qualify according to Micheal Halyk the EDO of South Parkland
REDA, who is pushing this promotion on behalf of the community that the REDA encompasses. Melville is exactly the size of a community that this program is aimed at by the sponsoring group. And also according to
Halyk, who is also the President of the Melville Millionaires, the “Millionaire” name is going to be 100 years old shortly and what a lot of people don’t realize it is the oldest name in hockey throughout Canada. The Melville Millionaire’s, which was named just after the turn of the previous century, has stuck with this community longer then any NHL team has been named. That is quite a feat and a fact that could just put us in the history books as the 2006 Kraft Hockeyville community.
This is one project that young and old rich or not so rich, everyone in this community can pull together to make this completion our goal and place Melville in the lime light that it deserves after almost a century of dedication by thousands of people to the game of hockey.
