SASKATCHEWAN
YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES
It has been said many times, that if you want to see things happen in your community, just unleash the power of the youth to make it happen.
Micheal Halyk, EDO at South Parkland REDA is excited to say that a new program offering youth an opportunity to do something within their community has just been announced. The Saskatchewan Youth Project Awards has just been unveiled this past week, and it offers many excellent avenues for young people within our community to do something special for themselves and for the community during 2006.
Since it was recognized that the
past Centennial year was so good for the province, a sum of money
has been set aside so young people between the ages of 14 – 29
can apply for a Sask. Youth Project Award and let their creative
mind work. Of course this also provides these people with a full
or part time job this summer to see the project through. The
projects are allowed to be whatever the applicant envisions,
however if it is selected the funds (up to a maximum of $5000.00)
must be used by December 31st, 2006. This is definitely a win-win
situation for all those involved.
So what is an idea that would make a good project? You are encouraged to finish this sentence: If I could change one thing in my community, I would _____________________.
These projects could be for individuals or groups with like minded ideas and are not restrictive to the community of Melville but anywhere in our South Parkland Region.
Halyk urges interested youth to
contact their office at Melville City Hall or phone 728-6855,
728-6878 or e-mail
edo@spreda.sk.ca .
Information can also be found about this project by going to “SaskYouth.net”
and then into your Province your World icon on that web-site. The
first deadline is March 31st 2006, so individuals are encouraged
to put there thinking hats on immediately to come up with some
great ideas.
